AT&T and other major tech companies team-up to improve cold-chain medicine delivery

A consortium of companies (AT&T, Volans-i, Softbox, Merck, and Direct Relief) have teamed up to develop a drone which safely delivers cold-chain medicines in extreme environments.

The mechanism of the design enabled the drone to keep medicines and vaccines at temperatures as low as -70 Celsius. The drone was also able to collect live data to track the temperature in real-time.

The successful trials have so far taken place in the Bahamas, Switzerland, and Puerto Rico. According to Hannan Parvizian, CEO of Volans-i, these trails are “an initial step in the consortium’s vision to provide access to medical supplies and vaccines where needed.”
